Abstract Or Scope
The collection consists mainly of the administrative files of Phyllis Mander-Jones and her assistants. They were created at the Australian High Commission in London during the compilation of Manuscripts in the British Isles relating to Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The records comprise research notes, manuscript, typescript and printed lists, correspondence and drafts of the publication. The correspondents include Phyllis Mander-Jones, Lindsay Cleland, Judith Baskin and Pat Millward.

The Fisher Papers include correspondence on family and official matters, departmental minutes and administrative papers, press cuttings, photographs, personal documents, and books and pamphlets. Much of this material document Fisher's political career, especially his terms as Australia's Prime Minister (1908-1909, 1910-1913, 1914-1915), and his work as High Commissioner in London (1915-1921). The correspondents include George Ryland, Matthew Reid, W. Demaine, J. C. Watson, Frank Tudor, D. C. McGrath, James Page, Albert Gardiner, W. G. Higgs, Josiah Thomas, Sir George Pearce, Keith A. Murdoch, W.M. Hughes, Sir George Reid, Colonel Anderson and General Birdwood.

Abstract Or Scope
The Deakin Papers form one of the finest political collections in Australia. They cover most of Deakin's life, and, above all, document the Federation movement of the 1890s and the first decade of the Commonwealth. In addition to the extensive correspondence and other papers on Australian politics and government, there are many diaries, notebooks and manuscripts in which Deakin set down his religious and philosophical reflections, extracts and commentaries on his readings, verse and other literary writings. There is a wide range of material in the papers, including correspondence, diaries, notebooks, literary manuscripts, legal briefs, official documents and publications, press clippings, pamphlets, books, certificates, posters, menus, programs, receipts, photographs, briefcases and memorabilia. Most of the correspondence was written to Deakin, but there are many letters that he wrote to his family and drafts or copies of some of his other letters.

The collection comprises Edward Stokes' photographic collection for his publication United We Stand: Impressions of Broken Hill, 1908-1910. The majority of the photographs are taken by James Wooler (1873-1944), a photographer who created a detailed pictorial record of Broken Hill between 1908-1910. The collection covers life in Broken Hill including photographs of the sporting events, horse races, picnics, school groups, parades, abattoirs, trains, the mines and the 1909 miner strike.

MS 2821 comprises the records of the Commonwealth Council including correspondence files of the secretary, director, Research Committee chairman and treasurer, minutes and agenda, speeches of R.G. Casey and financial records. The records relate to the major functions of the Institute including administration of the Dyason and Roy Milne lecture series, the Reciprocal Exchange Programme, Foreign Affairs Club and the Research Programme; liaison with state branches, the Institute of Pacific Relations, Royal Institute of International Affairs and other bodies; and, production of Australian outlook and other publications. Some records of the Canberra and New South Wales Branches of the Institute are also contained in the collection (127 boxes, 6 cartons, 1 fol. box).
