Papers 1888-1905 of Sir William Hillier Onslow, 4th Earl of Onslow, Governor of New Zealand 1889-1892. Subjects include: Maoris; Federation of Australia; Chinese crisis in New South Wales; defences of New Zealand and Australia; and New Zealand birds. Correspondents include Queen Victoria, Lord Knutsford, Richard Seddon and J. Chamberlain. Also papers of his son Sir Richard Onslow including an account of a visit to Australia and New Zealand 1889-1890.

Edward Koiki Mabo was born in 1936 on the island of Mer, one of the Murray Islands, which are located at the eastern extremity of Torres Strait. In June 1992, six months after his death, Mabo achieved national prominence as the successful principal plaintiff in the landmark High Court ruling on native land title. The High Court ruling, for the first time, gave legal recognition to the fact that indigenous land ownership existed in Australia before European settlement and that, in some cases, this land tenure was not subsequently extinguished by the Crown.

The bulk of the MS 7365 collection comprises papers relating to Sara Dowse's work as a writer, including research material, correspondence, newspaper cuttings and drafts of her novels, reviews and short stories. There are papers relating to her work as head of the Office of Women's Affairs, papers relating to grant applications, and personal correspondence with family and friends. There are extensive files on West Block, Canberra tales, Schemetime and Silver city, and also on the National Women's Advisory Council, Australian Labor Party, and Australian National Word Festival.

This collection comprises recordings from 79 microcassettes relating to the life of pastoralist JJ Leahy created by Gerard Leahy as research for his several books. Titles include 'Horses, cars and aircraft : JJ Leahy pastoral property pioneer' and 'Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in two generations'. The microcassettes include interviews with Keith and Paul Leahy speaking about their father JJ Leahy (1999-2007) and provide first hand recollections of an important rural figure and of a pastoral industry that is rapidly changing from holdings by individuals to corporate ownership.

The collection documents aspects of Counihan's career from the 1930s to 1994, and includes extensive series of correspondence (personal, business, family and posthumous), together with articles, reviews, catalogues and invitations connected with his various artistic and writing activities. Also featured in the papers are appointment diaries, published and photographic copies of Counihan's artwork (especially cartoons and caricatures), typescript memoirs, a manuscript history of Russian art, articles and speeches by or about the artist, and a few photographs and books about his life and career.

This collection comprises a large group of correspondence, both to and from Northcote Deck, mostly relating to his time with the South Seas Evangelical Mission (SSEM). His letters out contain detailed descriptions of his day-to-day life and issues arising in the Solomon Islands at that time. There is also a large group of Northcote Deck's writings including published and typescript versions of many of his articles, mostly intended for publication in Not in Vain, the SSEM journal, copies of his published books and drafts of a book on the Solomon Islands. Other material includes Queensland Kanaka Mission annual reports; issues of Not in Vain; and notebooks and loose pages of notes, most of a religious nature. The subject of the photographic material in the collection is mainly life and people in the Solomon Islands and is in the form of black and white photographs; black and white glass negatives, including family photographs taken by Harold Cazneaux; and coloured glass slides, used by Northcote Deck for presentations in Australia, England and Canada.
