The papers comprise correspondence, newspaper cuttings, talks, photographs, articles, research notes, reviews, handwritten notes, legal documentation, patrol reports and conference papers. The largest series in the collection relates to Manning Clark and consists of extensive newspaper cuttings, correspondence, drafts of articles and notes covering the controversy caused by Ryan's criticism in Quadrant (1993) of A History of Australia and Manning Clark as a historian generally, and claims by the Brisbane Courier Mail (1996) that Clark received an Order of Lenin medal during the Cold War.

Abstract Or Scope
The greater part of the H. B. Higgins correspondence concerns his work as first president of the Commonwealth Conciliation and Arbitration Court (1906-22), and the politics of the period as they affected his position and authority; among his correspondents are the leading politicians and legal figures of the day. There is also correspondence relating to Higgins' support for Irish Home Rule (1911-21), and some personal correspondence notably with his niece Nettie Palmer (nee Higgins). In addition there are notebooks of Higgins' speeches, legal extracts, private journals including an account of Henry's voyage to Australia in 1870, and a family tour of India and Europe in 1886, and volumes of press cuttings.

The collection comprises correspondence, diaries, notebooks, speeches, drafts, articles, poetry, subject files, Ellis Rowan source material, art work, photographs and other papers relating to Maie Casey's interests in art and family history, her books An Australian story (1962), Melba revisited (1975) and Rare encounters (1980), her involvement in the International Sculpture Competition (1953) and her role as the wife of the Governor of Bengal and Governor-General of Australia. There are also some papers of John Cotton, Theodotus John Sumner, Sir Charles Ryan and Ellis Rowan.

Covers mainly printed materials issued by the parties, independents, lobby groups for both Houses of Parliament for most elections from 1901 to date including referenda. The range of ephemera includes bumper stickers, posters, visiting cards, cartoons, newspapers, electorate reports, postcards, voting forms. Features some unusual non-print political collectibles such as banners, balloons, flags, clothing, buttons, badges, hats, sound recordings, coffee bean poll. From 1996 it includes paper copies of material found on the Internet. All materials are either bound or unbound.
