Abstract Or Scope
The MS 8460 consignment comprises papers relating to Marion Halligan's prolific career as an author. There are drafts of her books, short stories and reviews and papers relating to her participation in numerous literary events. There is a large series of correspondence, the bulk of which is business related. Included is correspondence with literary agents Curtis Brown, numerous publishers regarding publication of Halligan's books, editors of journals and newspapers regarding publication of her short stories, reviews, essays and articles and with organisations regarding personal appearances. There is also correspondence with other authors, many of whom have become personal friends. Correspondents include Carmel Bird, Judith Brett, David Brookes, Manning Clark, Robert Dessaix, Geoffrey Dutton, Roseanne Fitzgibbons, Mem Fox, Susan Hawthorne, A.D. The collection comprises files that were central to L. F. Fitzhardinge's career, research and academic work. MS 5400 (Class 1) includes manuscript drafts of vols. 1 and 2 of Fitzhardinge's biography of William Hughes, including the complete and final draft of volume 2; extensive notes, newscuttings, and published material and illustrations relating to Hughes, his career, and political conditions of his time, and photocopies of documents held at major manuscript collections such as the the Public Record Office (U.K.); photocopies of Hughes' letters, memoranda, and cablegrams; Hughes' educational and medical records; and letters to Fitzhardinge about Hughes. MS 5400 (Class 2) comprises lecture notes, personal and professional correspondence, ephemera, family letters, notebooks and appointment diaries (1931-1993), notes and correspondence relating to Australian history projects, Fitzhardinge's final thesis on Roman fleets, photographs, illustrations and draft manuscripts of The Spartans.

The publications contain information on every aircraft type proposed, designed, or manufactured in Australia, from 1884 to the mid-1980s. Keith Meggs published several authoritative works on Australian aviation and is internationally recognised for his contributions to aviation and its recorded history.
